The Pittsburgh Region's initiative included a series of
Workforce Summits designed to address workforce needs in four growth
industries in southwestern Pennsylvania. Throughout 2001,
business, labor, education, government, and community leaders in
health,
manufacturing, information technology, and financial services
met to develop specific action plans that addressed the particular labor demands
of their industry. An additional Workforce Summit for the
Hospitality and Tourism industry is currently in the planning
stages.
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Workforce
Summit Initiative is a regional initiative sponsored by Allegheny County
Chief Executive James Roddey, City of Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy, and
The Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board. The
Hill
Group
provides consulting services and project coordination
services for the Workforce Summits.
